The Executive Board for 2012-2013 is as follows. Contact information for all exec members can be found on Duke's online directory by searching duke.edu: Advisor: Abdullah T. Antepli Click here for Abdullah's bio. Educational Advisor: Saadia Yacoob Executive Board President: Nabeel Hyder [ This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ] Salaam! I'm Nabeel Hyder, a senior here studying neurobiology. I'll be president of MSA for the upcoming year, and along with the superb MSA exec board, we hope to play a role in enriching your Duke experience. I am from North Dakota and Karachi, Pakistan. I have absolutely loved living here in North Carolina for the past few years while at Duke. Over the years with MSA, I have gained an appreciation for the many diverse experiences my classmates have had with Islam. Learning from so many close friends has been a great blessing to me. Vice President: Ahmed Alshareef [ This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ] Assalamu Alaikum!
My name is Ahmed Alshareef, currently a junior at Duke majoring in biomedical engineering. I live in Columbia, SC, but Duke has quickly become a second home for me. I will serve as vice-president for this year's MSA leadership, and I am excited to assist this great community in every way I can. My favorite part of Duke MSA has to be the great group of people that never stop making you reflect, progress, and, most importantly, have fun in your journey through these 4 years!
Outreach Chair: Rasheed Alhadi [ This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ] Assalamualaikum! My name is Rasheed, and I'm a rising sophomore, majoring in Biomedical Engineering as a pre-med student. I'm MSA's Outreach Chair this year, so I'll be setting up events and keeping in touch with other religious organizations, both within and outside of Duke. If you ever need da konnectionz, I can hook you up. Hit up a brotha with any questions you might have. Peace,
Rasheed
Publicity Chair: Mert Arkan [ This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ] Hi, my name is Mert Arkan and I'm a rising Sophmore double majoring in political science and economics at Duke. My parents are from Turkey, but I was born near Washington, DC and lived there until 7th grade after which I moved to Switzerland...and then Germany (confusing I know). Now I'm at Duke and I love it! I am lucky enough to be a part of the Muslim community here at Duke, and am very proud to hold the position of Publicity Chair on the executive board. I think that many people underestimate the dual function that MSA serves; it is not only a medium through which our spiritual needs are met, but it also is a great way to socialize and meet new people. Some of the nicest and most accepting individuals I have met here at Duke have been at MSA functions. Given all that MSA has to offer, I look forward to being a part of the community in either an official or unofficial capacity for years to come. Treasurer: Nazanin Amini [ This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ] Salaam everyone! I'm Nazanin Amini and I'm the Duke MSA treasurer for the 2012-13 academic year. I'm a senior studying a self-designed major called Neuroscientific Approach to Political Behavior and getting a certificate in Global Health. Born in Afghanistan, I now live in the great Garden State. I find solace in God, family, friends, music and CHOCOLATE. My favorite things about Duke MSA include the Campus Wide Fast, Fajr at the Duke Gardens and most importantly, the incredible group of people that make up this community. I am really grateful for how welcome I have felt in this community and I'm looking forward to sharing that with our new members. My experience at Duke has been amazing and having MSA as part of that has only added to this great journey. If you have any questions about MSA, Duke or just life in general, I'll be glad to share with you my 22 year-old wisdom. :) Best, Naz
Secretary-Historian: Shajuti Hossain [ This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ] Assalamualaikum everyone! I'm Shajuti, a sophomore from Raleigh, majoring in Economics and Public Policy. As I am secretary-historian for MSA this year, I will be sending you e-mails very often to keep you in the loop (at least skim them please!). One of my most favorite services that MSA offers is Jummah every Friday. Listening to the khutbah each week gives me the motiviation and reminder that I need to continue pursuing my faith and all other goals. Civic Engagement Chair: Noreen Khan [
